Discontinuing UK SLEM List
April 2018
When the SLEM DNA Test for Border Terriers became available in October 2017 it was decided that owners who submitted test results to Steve Dean (the Border Terrier Breed Health Co-ordinator) would have the SLEM status of their dogs listed on the Breed Health Group Website under the SLEM/SPS heading.
Since then the Kennel Club has fully accepted the test as ‘Official’. This means that the status of all UK registered tested dogs is now being shown automatically on the Kennel Club website as follows: https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/health/for-breeders/dna-screening-schemes-and-results/dna-screening-for-breeds-a-b/border-terrier-dna-screening/ It is also shown on each respective dog’s individual record in the KC’s Mate Select system.
While the number of UK registered dogs’ test results being forwarded to the Breed Health Website is now minimal there is still a steady but modest stream of overseas results coming through.
The Breed Health Group has therefore decided to discontinue the separate listing of UK registered dogs on the Border Terrier BHG Website from 30th April and to replace this with a link to the KC site which gives full information on SLEM tests and status. The position at 30th April will be archived* on the Website.
Since, overseas, official websites equivalent to that of the KC may not exist, the Breed Health Group will continue to list results of overseas dogs when they are sent to the Breed Health Coordinator.
